REEL Creatures 2025: A Night with Brooke Johnson

The 2025 edition of REEL Creatures took place at Warkworth Town Hall for an evening that celebrated the intersection of horror and performance art. This year’s spotlight guest was acclaimed actor and visual artist Brooke Johnson, whose genre-defying career includes work on stage, in film, and in visual arts.
Audiences enjoyed a free screening of The Camp Host, a new comedy horror film starring Johnson, followed by an intimate talk with the actor herself. Reflecting on everything from character development to working on independent sets, Johnson brought warmth, humour, and insight to the night. The 2025 event firmly established Reel Creatures as a fan favourite within FAN’s annual lineup, where thrilling cinema meets unforgettable conversations.
REEL Creatures 2024: Zombies, Cults, and Chaos at The Claymore

In 2024, REEL Creatures returned with an energetic double feature at The Claymore Pub & Table, combining horror comedy with real industry insight. Fans filled the venue for a screening of the zombie short Storage Room B, followed by the wild and unpredictable feature Cult Hero, a story packed with conspiracy theories, cult showdowns, and explosive action.
The night also featured live Film Talks with the filmmakers. Director Scott Dion Brown joined the conversation along with Cult Hero’s director Jesse Thomas Cook and actor Liv Collins, sharing behind the scenes stories and production challenges. With a mix of laughs and scares, the 2024 edition proved that Reel Creatures celebrates both fun and filmmaking craft.
REEL Creatures 2023: Behind the Makeup with Randy Daudlin

The first-ever REEL Creatures event launched in 2023 through a special collaboration between Film Access Northumberland and Cobourg ComiCon. Held at the Cobourg Community Centre, the event brought together horror enthusiasts, aspiring filmmakers, and comic book fans for a deep dive into creature creation and low budget movie magic.
The evening featured special effects makeup artist, filmmaker, and author Randy Daudlin. Attendees watched a full screening of Bottom Feeder, a gritty creature feature directed by Daudlin, followed by a live makeup demonstration and a candid Q&A session. The event offered a rare chance to explore the world of practical effects, independent filmmaking, and storytelling straight from an industry veteran.
