Film Access Northumberland (FAN) is a Canadian registered charity (No. 792839540RR0001) dedicated to supporting emerging filmmakers and the art of storytelling. We believe art is essential - and film is today’s most powerful and accessible artistic medium.

Our Story So Far…

Film Access Northumberland (FAN) began in the fall of 2020, when a group of passionate film enthusiasts — Chris Worsnop, Cathie Houston, Micol Marotti, and Ross Pigeau — came together with a shared vision to celebrate the power and art of film in Northumberland County. A series of meetings soon developed into a clear plan to create a non-profit, volunteer-run organization that would connect the community through cinema.

In those early months, the founding team worked with focus and enthusiasm to bring their shared vision to life. They chose the name Film Access Northumberland (FAN) to reflect their belief that film should be shared, celebrated, and accessible to everyone. After holding their first formal meeting, drafting bylaws, and applying for incorporation, their vision became official. On December 19, 2020, FAN was recognized as a registered corporation, marking the beginning of a new chapter for film culture in Northumberland.

As FAN grew, so did our understanding of the local landscape. In 2026, we recognized a widening gap as arts access for young people was shrinking, particularly within schools. At the same time, emerging filmmakers across Ontario were searching for meaningful pathways to build skills, find mentorship, and gain real-world experience.

In response, we refined our mission. While continuing to celebrate film in the community, FAN is committed to more deeply to education and industry development, working to close the local access gap and to support emerging filmmakers with practical training, professional mentorship, and tangible opportunities.

Today, in addition to being a presenter of film, FAN is standing as a bridge also, connecting young people and emerging artists to the tools, guidance, and experiences that help creative careers take root.
